Session #1 July 7th-10th Summer Days and Nights

Monday July 7th, Students will start off  designing paper by using tempera paint and texture tools. While the paper dries students will have a snack and look at collage illustrations Eric Carle uses in my collection of Eric Carle books. While explaining how Eric Carle uses tissue paper and glue in his collage illustrations, I will read one of my favorite Eric Carle books;  The Very Lonely Firefly. If students decide to create a firefly which fits in great with the Summer Night theme, I will help them with the shapes and colors. If students  want to come up with  their own Summer Night creature I will help them with their ideas.

Tuesday, July 8th, we will be reading the book Through Georgia's Eyes as an introduction to the wonderful woman artist Georgia O'Keeffe. She loved to paint natural objects such as flowers, shells, skulls, and landscape. To go along with our Summer Theme we will be learning to draw shells by drawing form real life. If time allows, we can even color some in using pastel instead of paint!!
