Friday we created Koi Fish Ponds inspired by Claude Monet. We started by using Tempera Paint and Pastel to do a wax resist to add lines and color into our ponds. Covering the piece of white paper with different colored paints was a lot of fun in itself! While the paintings dried, we cut out lily pads which were green versions of Pac-Man, and added tissue paper for the lily's.
Before moving onto the fish, we asked Alex about this kind of fish because he happens to have a Koi Fish Pond in his yard. Below is Monet's Water Lily Pond which has a Japanese Bridge in it and koi fish lurking beneath the lily filled water. We pretended to be walking over the bridge ( table ) to see what the fish looked like from above. We decided that you could only see the top of the fish when looking down over the bridge and their round mouth opening up as they reached the top of the water looking for food.
