As a continuation from ANIMAL WEEK everyone got the taste of Abstract Spanish artist Joan Miro.
We looked at Ladders Across the Blue Sky in a Wheel of Fire.
First students viewed and discussed the artwork
painting done by Miro. Using pencil drawn
Basic Shapes, along with
imaginary ideas, an animal of their own was created.
Next, pastel was used to color in only the smaller shapes
and leaving the large shapes to be filled in with tempera
water paints. This process is called Wax Resist! The
wax in the pastel and the water added to the Tempera
Cakes resist one another. I tell the kids that the water
and the pastel "don't like one another".
Matthew uses one of his favorite animals a whale and adds on colorful stripes.
William draws rectangles for his cat's lets using pastel.
Alex is filling in the shapes of her bird like animal with pastel.
Time to show off:
Love those big and small shapes Alex!
Cool whale Matthew!
Wonderful Kitty William!
And the love of nature continues as Matthew shapes his rock and dirt sculpture?
After class Sean finally shows off his project. Love your flying bird like animal Sean!
